Transaction Rationale

Our investment in Amada is a strategic acquisition that catalysed our first step into the fixed income asset management space. Our acquisition and structuring of the transaction effectively allowed us to enhance our core service offering under the YW Group. Our stake in Amada also improved the empowerment credentials of the company, thereby opening new opportunities for growing the c. R3,5B in assets under management and diversifying the client base. In 2020, YWC concluded the successful exit of its investment in Amada with an IRR of 33.3%.

The YWC team performed an opportunistic analysis to identify the sectors and industries that would likely adapt or fail in Q2 2020, thereby enabling YWC to successfully align itself with the increased demand experienced in fully-fledged self-storage services. YW Capital concluded an investment that amounted to 20% of the issued share capital of Spacious (Pty) Ltd (“Spacious”), a fully serviced self-storage company. Furthermore, YWC identified synergies to leverage its deep relationships in the property sector to unlock further opportunities for Spacious to expand its market share. Since our investment, Spacious has more than tripled its forecasted performance and continues to maintain a strong growth trajectory
